How does edx plan to manage their innovative learning platform?

Edx is a not-for-profit enterprise built upon the shared educational missions of its founding partners, Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).  Edx will be managed by a board of governors from both Harvard and MIT faculty who will oversee the development of this learning platform. The edx platform will be available as open-source.

How is Edx different from what other universities are doing online?

One primary goal of edx is to improve teaching and learning on campus by experimenting with blended models of learning and supporting faculty in conducting research on how students learn.  The first version of this technology was used in the first MITx course, 6.002x, Circuits and Electronics, which was launched in Spring, 2012.  Edx plans to to build upon this learning platform created by MIT as needed.

What technologies are currently in use?

MIT and Harvard announce edXHarvard  and MIT has introduced a fascinating new initiative called edX.  The technology is a open-source learning platform that will feature teaching designed specifically for the web.  They include self-paced learning, online discussion groups, wiki-based collaborative learning, tools for assessment of learning as a student progresses through a course, and online laboratories.  This platform will serve as a laboratory to gather data to better understand how student's learn.  Also, because of the open-source format, this allows for continuous improvements to the platform.  The edX model will offer innovative interactive learning experiences for students and allow other universities access to their emerging technology so they can create or improve their online offerings.

Multitasking!

Addressing upgrades or changes needed to provide better technology and more productivity.

No matter how much upgrade a company makes to their technology or if a company get better technology one is still limited to one task at a time.  No such thing as multitasking!

Managing Technology in distant education and beyond

The organization that team B selected is Harvard University and MITx distant learning. It is a joint partnership built on MITx and Harvard University’s distance learning; it aims to benefit campus-based education and beyond.

Harvard University and MIT promoted edX, a transformational new partnership in online education. Through edX, which is new technology, collaboration with the two institutions will enhance campus-based teaching and learning and build a global community of online learners.

The technological platform recently established by MITx will serve as the foundation for the new learning system.

The organization can be evaluated by offering online versions of MIT courses featuring video lesson segments, embedded quizzes, immediate feedback, student-ranked questions and answers, online laboratories and student paced learning. EdX represents a unique opportunity to improve education on the campus through online learning, while simultaneously creating a bold new educational path for millions of learners worldwide.
